Join Adam Field and Heesoo Lee in the beautiful Tuscan countryside at La Meridiana International School of Ceramics for two weeks of demonstrations, discussions, delicious foods, and dedicated studio time!
"In this two-week workshop, Adam Field and Heesoo Lee (husband and wife) will demonstrate methods of working that have lead them to create distinct, yet complimentary, bodies of functional and decorative work. Both Adam and Heesoo share a love for nature and history while incorporating completely different sources, techniques and materials into their pots. Field will demonstrate his methods of wheel-throwing porcelain vessels and carving intricate pattern on a variety of forms. Lee will share her techniques for throwing, hand-building, and painting with porcelain along with her ideas about designing pots with specific slip and underglaze paintings in mind. Field’s discussions about his time as a potter’s apprentice in Korea, personal aesthetics, and photography journaling methods for the studio potter are certain to encourage individual discovery, growth, and development of fresh ideas. Lee will share stories about her life and work from her early years drawing and painting on 2-D surfaces in Korea to her current exploration with underglaze painting on porcelain vessels. There will also be informative discussions and exercises geared toward finding inspiration through personal exploration of one’s own practice both in and out of the studio. Participants will gain the skills and confidence necessary to explore form, texture, line, and color as a way to blend ideas and concepts with tactile discovery. Work will be made in porcelain.
*Adam will start each day with a 30-minute discussion/activity on creativity and personal expression and idea building through techniques he has developed from his photography background."
